Herbert “Glen” Whitecotton passed away on the morning of January 12, 2026 at the Villa Marie, Covenant Care in Red Deer after a long battle with dementia. His loving family was by his side as he took his last breath.
Glen was born April 6, 1931 to Roy and Jennie Whitecotton of Lacombe. He worked most of his life farming and on road construction and it’s a good bet that if you travel around Alberta, you will be on a road he had a part in building. He told great stories of his years building roads to anyone that would listen, especially his children and grandchildren. Glen’s favorite pastime was duck and deer hunting as long as the gun was a Remington.
Glen is survived by his wife of 72 years, Audrey “Toots”, his daughter Lynn (David), and his son Erle (Debby).
He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Wayne (Sue), Jill (Jeff), Kate (Billy), Evan (Kassie) as well as his great grandchildren, Talia, Hannah, Oliver, Maverick, Forrest & Audree.
Surviving nieces and nephews will also have fond memories of their Uncle Glen
Grandpa Glen loved his “Brats” (the grand & great grandchildren). From building snow forts on the old acreage to the weekend sleepovers at the farm the “Brats” have so many fond memories. From rides in the old international tractor; the fine art of trapping gophers; moving hay bales around to play on; clearing spaces in the trees for little forest rooms and coffee time only after the chores were done. Grandpa Glen would usually give the kids a tiny little crumb of something Granny had baked and put it on their plates and call it good. This made for many giggle times at the kitchen table. They will always remember Grandpa Glen making a fist and saying “Sniff that!” Grandpa’s brats new his love and for that we are all grateful.
We have lost a wonderful man. He had a good long life. He loved his family. In this past year dementia had taken over his mind and body but he would always remember who his beloved Toots was and often call for her when he struggled to remember where he was.
Glen was the last surviving member of his immediate family being predeceased by his parents, his sister Lorraine, brother-in-law Merv, brother Allan, sister-in-law Edith as well as Audrey’s family.
The family would like to thank the Lacombe Care Center and Villa Marie, Covenant Care in Red Deer for their excellent care over the past year. We would also like to thank the family & friends that have helped with transportation and visits. A very special thank you to their niece, Coleen, for her weekly visits and being there for her Auntie Toots & Uncle Glen.
As per Glen’s request, there will be no funeral. A private family interment will be held at a later date.
