Hester Ann Bugg 

1919 - 2020

Hester Bugg of Calgary, formerly of Bentley, passed away peacefully, November 11, 2020, to be with Jesus at the age of 101 years.

Hettie will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Gloria and son-in-law Fred Duffy of Calgary. Grandsons Colin (Michelle) Duffy of Airdrie, Eric (Katherine) Duffy of Victoria, BC. Great Grandchildren Quinn, Morgan, Cyrus and Cian of Airdrie, Maria and Solomon of Victoria, as well as sister-in-law Pauline Rapley, and many nieces and nephews.

Hester was predeceased by her loving husband Warren Bugg (2003), her parents James and Hester Rice of Haynes, AB, brothers Bob Rice, Bill Rice, Jim Rice, John Rice and sister Molly Nielsen.

Hester was raised on a farm in the Haynes area that her parents homesteaded in 1903, when they immigrated from Ireland. She loved nature and horses and rode horseback to St. Patrick School where she took her early education. She went to live with her sister Molly and family to attend High School in Alix, AB.

She took her nurses training at Holy Cross Hospital in Calgary. After graduation in 1945 she moved to Bentley to start her career as an R.N. at The Bentley Hospital and continue to work there until her retirement.

She met her husband Warren in Bentley and they were married in 1949. They enjoyed their home and friends in Bentley throughout their 54 years together.

Hester enjoyed gardening and Warren and her had a bountiful vegetable garden and beautiful flowers. After retirement, enjoyable times were spent travelling in their motorhome and camping with friends and family. More than anything she loved her family and enjoyed spending time with her grandsons and then her great grandchildren.

In 2005, Hester moved to Calgary to be near her daughter and family. She resided at the Lodge of Valley Ridge for ten years until health issues required her to move to Bow View Manor.

The family would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Shankle and staff at Bow View Manor for their compassionate Care.

Visitation for Hester will occur at 11:00 - 12:00  at Wilson's Funeral Chapel. A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, November 20th, 2020 at the Bentley Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. Due to current restrictions a Celebration of Life for Hester will be planned for a later date.
