Hilda Mae (Salomons) Brouwer was born in Drente, Netherlands on October 16, 1923. At the age of 5, Hilda’s family immigrated to Saskatchewan. Hilda received all her formal education in a one-room country school. Later the family moved to Lacombe, Alberta where Hilda met her love Clarence (Klaas) Brouwer. Together they farmed and raised 7 children.
Hilda was involved in the Woodynook Christian Reformed Church, the Christian school, and her community. When her husband Clarence passed away in 1980, Hilda went to work at her first paying job as a housekeeper at the Red Deer Hospital. She enjoyed her work, and loved her co-workers. Hilda volunteered for many years at the Red Deer Mission Thrift Store and at the Red Deer Hospital.
Hilda passed away peacefully on March 5, 2020 at the age of 96. She will be greatly missed by her children Wynn Moodie, Wilma Busaan, Joan Swanson, Marlene Brouwer, Linda Brouwer, Ron Brouwer, and Roger Brouwer, as well as their significant others, Hilda’s grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, and many friends.
Hilda’s family wishes to thank the management and caring staff at Royal Oak Memory Care Unit where Hilda resided and received her palliative care, as well as Wilson’s Funeral Chapel for their kindness and guidance.
In Memory of Hilda donations may be directed to the Missions Thrift Store 2823 Bremner Ave, Red Deer, AB. T4R 1S2
