Hope Wierenga Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of our baby Hope. We will miss her fiercely, but God, in His perfect wisdom, declared her work here finished. Her life was a light and testament of God’s faithfulness to everyone she met. Her diagnosis of Trisomy 18 meant she was very small for her age. She was born on Valentine’s day, 2025 weighing 5lb6oz and she passed away the day before her nine month birthday having gained only about two pounds in her whole life. Oh, the conversations she started! Her existence gave so many opportunities for us, her parents, to speak of the joy of our Lord.

She needed CPR and intubation for the first days of life, but not again until her final day here below so she was free of most wires and encumbrances and we were able to live life to the fullest.

What a bucket list this little girl accomplished:

Get baptized on April 6, 2025 √

Go on a 7200km road trip at three months old √

For the first leg of the journey, go to Wisconsin to visit family √

For the middle part of this trip, go to the Ark Encounter in Kentucky √

For our final leg of the trip go to Chicago area to watch the last Span auntie get married √

Go to the African Children’s Choir program and get prayed over by the entire choir √

Go on the Wierenga camping trip and go on quadding trails while strapped tightly to mom √

Get hearing aids √

Be part of our church’s weeklong VBS √

Go to multiple music jams with our neighbor Bill and make so many new friends √

Go singing at the Lacombe Lodge every month and get loved on by everyone there √

Celebrate grandparents 40th wedding anniversary at Span Camp √

Go to Canmore and ride the gondola in Banff for dad and mom’s 15th wedding anniversary √

Go to Heritage Park in Calgary with our family and our favorite old guy √

Watch the last remaining Wierenga auntie get married √

Fulfill my purpose here on earth √

Meet Jesus face to face √

And so much more. Every day was a blessing and a gift. God be with us till we see you again little honey. You were always God’s little girl, we are just so glad He saw fit to share you with us for nine whole months.
