Jack (Robert John) Brooks 

November 11, 1932 - April 7, 2021

With sadness we announce our beloved Jack Brooks passed away peacefully in the Lacombe hospital on April 7, 2021 at the age of 88 after a brave battle with heart and lung issues.  Jack is survived by Helen, his loving wife of 63 years; daughters, Jacquie Halpen (Greg), Susan Massong (Kim) and Nancy Brooks (Randy); grandchildren Todd Halpen (Theresa), Andrea Blackwell (Jeff), Haley Massong (Evan), Calla Wright (Zach) and Jessie von Flotow (Maurizio); and great granddaughter, Ruby Wright. 

Jack was predeceased by his parents, George and Marjorie Brooks; sister, Joan Bodie; and son, Greg Peter Brooks.

Jack was born and raised in Lacombe.  His school years were filled with many activities such as student leadership and all sports, including high school football quarterback and junior hockey.  Jack received his engineering degree in Oklahoma and returned to Alberta for his successful career in the oil industry. He and Helen raised their wonderful family in Calgary and spent many happy times at their Gull Lake cabin and on family ski trips. 

Jack retired to Lacombe in 1989 and began his second career; he provided exemplary volunteer service and leadership for the Alberta Golf Association and Lacombe Golf and Country Club for over 25 years.  He also spent much time ice fishing, playing bridge, skiing, curling, traveling, and reading, but one of the most important things in his life was spending time with his family and friends. 

Jack did not waste words. What he did say was meaningful and wise. 

A ready, genuine smile and a personal greeting for everyone let his warmth and generosity shine through. We will all miss him dearly.

At Jack’s request, no formal service will be held but a celebration will be arranged at a later date.
