It is with great sadness that we, the family of Jack Siebenga, announce his passing at home after a short but courageous battle with cancer, at the age of 82. Jack was a devoted husband, beloved father and grandfather, and a caring brother and friend.
Jack was born in a hurry—just inside the front doors of the Bentley Hospital—on March 21, 1943, and spent his entire life on the family farm known as “The Home Place.” He was the third child of Siebe and Alice Siebenga. Jack attended the Christian School at Woody Nook CRC and later studied in Bentley. He left his formal education after the ninth grade to begin working at home and for various farmers in the community. Through 4-H, he earned a scholarship to attend Olds Agricultural and Vocational College, where he received a diploma in Farm Management.
After college, Jack returned home to take over the family dairy and soon met the love of his life, Linda Vander Woude, a teacher at Lacombe Christian School. Together, Jack and Linda raised their two children, Shana and Jason, and built a successful dairy operation.
Jack was an earth keeper at heart. This mindset was influenced by his involvement in the Christian Farmers Association, conversations with his sisters when they returned from college, and his parents’ deeply held belief that “Every square inch of the world belongs to God,” a principle they instilled in all their children.
Jack had a deep curiosity about the natural world and a passion for learning. He loved to travel, explore local history, and research historical events. His love of honoring and preserving history, led to his contributions to the Bentley history book and the records of Woody Nook Christian Reformed Church, writing his own memoirs and establishing a small museum in the old milk house to house his growing collection of artifacts.
As a dairy farmer, Jack wore many hats—veterinarian, mechanic, plumber, welder, and carpenter. There were few jobs he wouldn’t try to figure out on his own.
Jack passed away surrounded by the love of his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Linda; his daughter Shana (Chris Kooman); and his son Jason Siebenga. He was a proud grandfather to Shana and Chris’s children: Avery (Kelsey), Fischer (Kailey), Pierson, and Spencer (Makenna); and to Jason’s daughters: Elena, Lauren, Maya, and Halle. Jack’s legacy continues through his great-grandchildren—Collins and Jack—children of Avery and Kelsey.
Jack is also survived by his sisters: Rinda, Agnes, Tena, and Marg, and sister-in-law Anne, along with their families. He was predeceased by his parents, Alice and Siebe Siebenga, and his brothers, Wieger and Harry.
Jack will be remembered for his faith, humility, curiosity, and the deep love he had for his land, his community, and above all, his family.
