Janet Massez Obituary

We regret to announce the passing of Janet Diane Massez, 66, of Hinton, Alberta, on the 28th of February 2023. Janet passed away, surrounded by her loved ones, after a battle with cancer.

Janet was predeceased by her mother Nieske, father Nanno, sister Mietje, sister Evelyn, and her sister in law Minnie. She is survived by her sisters and brothers; Wilhelmina, Johanna, Nancy, Margaret, Bert, Jackie, Vivian and Fred and numerous nephews and nieces.

Janet was born in Niagara Falls, Ontario, to Nieske and Nanno Jager. Janet graduated from Parkland Composite High School, Edson, Alberta in 1974. In December 1974 Janet and Jean-Pierre married and moved overseas to Scotland. They spent about a decade there, where Jean was employed in the North Sea Oilfield. Their daughter Michelle was born August 1983 and they moved back to Canada when Michelle was one and a half years old. From there, they made a life for themselves in Morningside on the acreage of Janet’s dreams. They welcomed their second child Andre in January 1986. Janet found joy in gardening, playing outside with her children and you could always find her with a book. Janet's fondness of the great outdoors showed in every aspect of her life.

Life changed and Janet had the opportunity to attend Red Deer College where she completed her certificate in Administrative Support and graduated in 1991. From there she moved to Fort Saskatchewan where she had a long rewarding career with Corrections Canada. Janets various positions within the facilities were her pride and joy and a place where she built lifelong friendships. Janet took an early retirement when she was diagnosed with cancer.

Through her illness she moved to Hinton where daily care and love was given by her sister Nancy and brother Bert, who we deeply thank for their commitment to our mother and sister. In Janet's remaining days she was surrounded by family and friends, and enjoyed going for long drives through the back roads and mountains of Hinton, stopping for ice cream.

She was a loving mother, devoted grandmother, cherished sister and loyal friend. Janet leaves behind her daughter Michelle, son Andre, grandsons Gauge, Avery, Jensen and granddaughter Elena. She will always be in our thoughts and hearts. You will be deeply missed, Janet.

“You guide me with your council, and afterwards you will take me into glory” -Psalm 73:24
