Jeltje "Jenny" (Sinnema) Bajema

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jenny (Sinnema) Bajema.  Jenny passed away peacefully on Monday December 7, 2021 at the age of 93 years at Poplar Courts Nursing Home in Wilkie, Sask.

Jenny was born on January 3, 1928 in Coaldale, Alberta to Detje and Evert Sinnema.  She was the 3rd of 5 children.

Jenny spent her younger years growing up in Granum on the family farm. In 1945 she met Bill while he was in the area working, they married  November 18, 1947 in a double wedding along with Jenny’s sister Annie and Klass Poelman

They started life together on the Woody Nook family farm.  They operated a mixed farm in addition to a dairy farm along with their children Jake, Dorothy, Evert, Ron and Peter.  Jenny would make a point of going back to Granum area at least a couple times a year to visit her parents, siblings and their families. 

When Jenny and Bill retired they started to travel visiting their children, grandchildren and friends. Many times they travelled as far as Australia to visit Jake, Maria and family. They would tour Australia for extended periods, Jenny frequently shared memories from these trips.  Spending time with their grandchildren was always the highlight of their travels.  Jenny also enjoyed day tours that were organized by the church, which allowed her to explore different areas and events of Alberta.                                                                                                                                     

After Bill passed away in 2003, she moved to a house in Lacombe. She had a large yard and vegetable garden that allowed her to continue to enjoy the outdoors.  She spent many hours in the kitchen canning and processing her harvest.  When she wasn’t busy in the garden Jenny spent many hours volunteering with her friends from her church groups. She also had a love of knitting and crocheting, it gave her so much joy to have the opportunity to teach her great granddaughters to knit as well.  She always had toques and blankets made to give to her loved ones. 

She thoroughly enjoyed friends and family visits, she was happy to pour tea and serve goodies between spending many hours of playing games or doing puzzles with her company.

Jenny then moved into the Lacombe Lodge, she lived there for several years before she moved to the Villa Marie Lodge in Red Deer.  When visits were not allowed due to the pandemic, she made the very difficult decision to move to the Wilkie Nursing Home  to be closer to her son.

Jenny is remembered by her son Evert (Gloria) Wilkie, Sk, son-in-law Dick Wynia Red Deer, AB, daughter-in-law Maria Bajema in Australia; along with 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 1 great- great-grandson, brother-in-law Klass Poelman, sister-in-law Edith Sinnema.

She was predeceased by her husband Bill; daughter Dorothy; sons Peter, Ron and Jake; brothers Case, Bill and Peter; sister Annie; her parents Detje and Evert Sinemma.

A Public Visitation will be held on Monday Dec 13, 2021 at Wilson's Funeral Chapel - Lacombe - from 4-7:00 pm. Due to COVID restrictions 50 people will allowed into the building at one time.
