Joann Montegary

1935 – 2020

Joann Montegary, beloved mother and grandmother died peacefully, with her family by her side, and went to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on August 17th, 2020 at the age of 84 years.

Joann was born in Lethbridge, Alberta and raised in Red Deer with eight siblings. On a break from the University of Alberta, Joann traveled to Vancouver, BC for a year and then on to Honolulu, Hawaii. Here Joann met her husband, they married in 1959, moved to New York city and started their family. In 1964, Joann and family moved to Phoenix, Arizona. In 1972, Joann returned to Alberta and resumed her University of Alberta studies, completing a Bachelor of Education in 1975. Joann taught elementary school for the County of Lacombe until her retirement in 1994. In retirement, Joann liked spending more time with the church choir, bible study, Catholic Woman’s League activities and giving communion to lodge residents.

Joann enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, dancing, music, singing, playing instruments, learning foreign languages, hanging out at the lake, long road trips, watching movies, 10 pin bowling, knitting sweaters and various artistic endeavours. Throughout her life Joann was a devout Catholic who promoted Catholic values. In addition to her involvement with the Catholic Church, Joann was an active volunteer for many years with the Central Alberta Teachers’ Convention Association. She also sponsored the schooling of several under privileged children.

Joann was predeceased by her parents, Raymond and Mable Pollock (Griffin), and brothers Bruce, Phil, John and Pat.

Joann will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her children; Kathie (Luca), Jackie, Pat (Laurie), Maureen, Lynne, and Reilly (Erin), her grandchildren; Jacob, Levi, Max (Frankie) and Ally, her siblings; Jean (Denny), Bill (Shirley-Anne), Don (Beth), Maryann and sister-in-law Letty, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 10, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Stephen Parish ( 5128 53 St, Lacombe, AB T4L 1J7) . Followed by a committal service at the Fairview Cemetery (4430 – Woodland Drive). St. Stephen Parish requests all attendees wear a mask at the funeral service
