ANDERSON, John Donald
1937 – 2022
John Donald Anderson of Erskine, Alberta passed away at the Stettler Hospital on June 22, 2022, at the age of 84 years.
John was born in Stettler, Alberta to Brian and Mae Anderson on September 24, 1937, the youngest of six children. He grew up on the family farm in the Union Hall District. He attended the Union Hall School and later Erskine School. As a teen, he played hockey, but loved baseball and pitched on the Erskine Team with Coaches Al & Horace Chapman and later with the Great Bend Braves. He left school early to work on the oil rigs and later for Wilfort Construction before returning to the family farm several years later.
John and Helen North were married in 1962 and welcomed baby girl Anita in December 1963. They moved to their current location in April 1968 and welcomed their second daughter Susan in May 1969. John loved the outdoors and operating equipment, grain farming and the construction business. Many times, in later years he always said how grateful and fortunate he was to always have enough work.
John will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 59 years, Helen; his daughters Anita (Mike) Watson of Calgary and Susan (Dave) Nicholson of Red Deer; his grandchildren, Kaitlin (TJ) Berg of Calgary, Jesse Watson of Calgary, and John Nicholson of Red Deer; and great grandsons, Wyatt and Barrett Berg (with baby brother on the way). John is survived by his sister-in-law, Toots “Gladys” Anderson of Stettler; as well as Helen’s sisters, Mary Barclay and Louise Robinson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by parents Mae and Brian Anderson; brothers, Jim, Charlie (Gladys) Ritchie and Harvey (Pat); his sister, Jean (Ray) Locke; nephews, Darren Anderson, Kelly Anderson, Rick Locke and David Anderson; as well as his In-Laws, Ted and Margaret North; brothers-in-law; Glen Robinson and Gerry Barclay.
Funeral Services will be held at St. George’s Anglican Church, Stettler, Alberta on Thursday, June 30, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. A Private Graveside will be held in the Erskine Cemetery.
