John Letkeman

It is with great sadness that the family of Mr. Henry “John” Letkeman, a.k.a. "John the Grader Man", announce his peaceful passing at the Red Deer Hospital on Monday, September 2, 2024 at the age of 69 years.

John was born March 28, 1955 in Carberry, Manitoba, and he grew up on a farm north of MacGregor, Manitoba.  In 1977, John moved to Brooks, Alberta and here he worked for a construction company building roads.  It was there he met his future wife, Brenda (nee Martens).  John and Brenda married on April 12, 1979, celebrating their 45th year of marriage this past spring. 

The family moved to Central Alberta in 1981, and in 1995, John and Brenda purchased a farm outside of Clive, Alberta.  This was John’s dream, to have a few cows and a place for his tractors.  He enjoyed haying and putting the crop in.

In 1988, John started his own business, John’s Grader Service, which he owned and operated for 35 years.  Over those years, he provided a variety of services for his neighbours in the Central Alberta area and became well known in the community.

John cherished spending time with people he loved, whether that be a wiener roast on Friday nights in the yard, attending auction sales with friends, or card nights with the neighbours.  Joy came from spending quality time with his grandchildren.  He will be greatly missed by many hearts.

Left to mourn, John is survived by his wife, Brenda; sons, Jeremy, and David (Tracey); daughter, Jo-Ann (Ryan); grandchildren, Morgan, Dylan, Jadyn, Kaydence, Colby, Colton, and Brody; siblings, Nettie, Grace, Mary, Margaret, Peter, Norma, and Dorothy, and their families; brother-in-law, Ed Martens; numerous extended family and many dear friends.

John was predeceased by his parents, Jake and Nettie Letkeman; sister, Betty; parents-in-law, George and Beth Martens; and sister-in-law, Kerry Martens.

A Family Viewing will take place at Wilson’s Funeral Chapel (6120 Hwy 2A, Lacombe) on Saturday, September 14, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., followed by a Family Graveside at the Clive Cemetery at 2:00 p.m.

A Celebration of John’s Life will be held at the family farm at 3:00 p.m., which will be open to family and friends.  Refreshments will be served in the shop.
