John Stol Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of John Stol wishes to announce his passing due to Covid-19 on January 14, 2021 at the age of 80. As a man of deep faith, he died peacefully knowing he was in the arms of Jesus.

John is survived by his wife Teena, children Helen (Tom) Pierce, Albert (Laurie), Katherine, Bruce, Daniel (Melodie), Christine (Jeremy) Olthuis, Evelyn and Suzanne (Brennan) Kimble and his grandchildren Nancy, Ryan (Vanessa) Pierce,  Amy (Jonathan) Ellens, Bradley (Jenny), Clayton (Karli), Trevor Hogle, Jacquelyn Hogle, Kaitlyn (Matt) Burnard, Evan (Lucienne), Madison Olthuis, Jake Olthuis, Lucas Kimble, Grace Kimble, and Trinity Kimble as well as 3 step grandchildren  and 7 great grandchildren. John is also survived by his sister, Rennie Westergreen.  John was predeceased by his daughter Janice in 1970.

John was born in the Netherlands on January 11, 1941.  With his family, he immigrated to Canada in 1948 and lived in Lethbridge and Lacombe for a few years before moving to southern Ontario.  John returned permanently to the Blackfalds area in 1963.

John operated a construction company for 50 years and has built innumerable homes, barns and garages in Lacombe and surrounding area. He shingled many hundreds of roofs and was last on a roof as recently as 2015 at the age of 74!  He was always happy to help friends and relatives with repair projects - even making some vacations become "working vacations". He will be missed at home for some of his MacGyver-like repairs.

John loved playing games with friends and family.  He caught the curling bug early and was an avid and accomplished curler for over 60 years, entering many bonspiels in Lacombe and surrounding towns. Many curlers knew their game would be well tested against his team during the bonspiel. He came home with many prizes and accolades over the years. When he wasn’t playing, he loved watching curling and when Covid stopped live curling, he watched the re-runs!

As John was known for helping others and giving back to people in need, we request that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to World Renew at WorldRenew.ca
