Joseph Leopold "Leo" Bouchard
Jan 10, 1938 - Nov 26, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Leo Bouchard in Lacombe, AB, on Nov 26, 2025, at 87 years young.
Leo was born on Jan 10, 1938, the youngest of 13 children born to Alfred and Leanne Bouchard in St Francois, New Brunswick. Nicknamed "Babe" by one of his siblings, he fondly retains the name Uncle Babe by numerous nieces and nephews back east.
As a child, Leo participated in the annual sugaring off of the maple trees in New Brunswick on his brother Romeo's farm. He would often be found licking the spoon during the condensing process. The fondness for the maple flavor remained strong throughout his life and he would often be found eating a maple cookie.
Leo joined the Air Force in July 1955. He served for 10 years in various locations including a 1-year tour in Egypt on a UN Peacekeeping mission.
Leo and Marlene were married on Dec 22, 1962, in Red Deer, AB while he was still in the Air Force. They had 2 children. Their son, Chad, was born in 1964 and their daughter, Sandra, was born in 1967.
In 1965, Leo decided to go farming with his Father-in-Law, Clarence Galloway. Leo and Marlene moved to a farm near Joffre where he farmed for 26 years. During the years on the farm, Leo could frequently be found coaching hockey in the winter at Satinwood School from 1973-1978. Leo also regularly led Bible Studies at their home, later becoming an Elder at the Lacombe Pentecostal Church for several years.
He retired from the farm in 1992 and enjoyed a long retirement. Often camping with friends and traveling throughout Canada and the United States, they eventually wintered in Arizona for 10 years, happy to escape the cold Alberta winters.
Leo is survived by his wife of nearly 63 years, Marlene, his son, Chad (Lynda) Bouchard and family, Justin Bouchard (Kaylea) Grayson and Raelynn, Danielle Bouchard (Kael), and his daughter, Sandra Durkee and family, Cheri Doyle, Scott (Natalia) Doyle, and Brett Doyle (Sabrina), and Brother-in-Law and Sister-in-Law, Ken and Marie Burden, and was uncle to nearly 250 nieces and nephews spanning 4 generations.
Leo was predeceased by his parents Alfred and Leanne Bouchard, 12 brothers and sisters, Romeo, Roger, Raoul, Fleur-Ange, Maria, Laurent, Renault, Marguerite, Ernest, Reno, Robert, and Aurore, and his Father-in-Law and Mother-in-Law, Clarence and Daisy Galloway.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at Wilson's Funeral Chapel in Lacombe, AB on Dec 3, 2025, at 1pm.
