Joyce Hunt Obituary

In the early morning of Oct 31, 2021 Joyce passed away at the Lacombe Hospital from the side effects of a stroke suffered on Sept 12th.

Joyce was born in Bashaw to Annie & Charles Shoemaker on Oct 27, 1931. She went to school in Bashaw along with her three siblings Evelyn, Gordon and Doris.

Joyce married Leonard Thebeau on Aug 1, 1950 in Camrose. They had four children Linda, Vernon, Allen and Dwayne, plus four other children who died in infancy. The family moved many times around central Alberta never really did settled in one spot for very long.

Joyce remarried William "Hughie" Hunt on Dec 30, 1971 in Lacombe and resided in Lacombe for many years. With the marriage to Hughie, her family grew to 5 more step children. 

Joyce enjoyed camping, fishing and card games with their motor home. She also loved to bowl and watching curling. Joyce was also very involved in the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary catering to many events in and around Lacombe for many years. She travelled to many schools for Remembrance Day services. In the retired years, she really enjoy many bus tours with Parson Tours in Canada & the USA.

Joyce is survived by her sister, Evelyn; sons, Vernon (Cheryl) Thebeau, Dwayne (Sherry) Thebeau; step children, Glenn (Florence) Hunt, Joyce Krotech, Laverne (Anno) Dykstra, Al (Marla) Hunt; daughter-in-law, Margaret; 8 grandchildren, Rob, Shelly, Nick, Chelsea, Jeff, Noel, Devon, and Dylan; 18 step grandchildren; 51 great grandchildren; 10 great great grandchildren; also many nieces and nephews and friends.

Joyce was predeceased by her father and mother, Charles and Annie Shoemaker, husbands, Leonard Thebeau and Hughie Hunt; sister, Doris Mazankowski; brother, Gordon Shoemaker; daughter, Linda Simpson; son, Allen Thebeau; and stepson, Eugene Hunt.

A Graveside Service will take place at Alto Reste Cemetery, Red Deer (located 3.6 km east of 30 Avenue on Highway 11), on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at 2:00 p.m.
