June Long Obituary

It is with great sadness the family of June Long (Cadek) announces her passing, June 1st 2024 at the age of 99.June passed away peacefully in her sleep at the Lacombe health Centre, Long Term Care facility.

June is survived by her son Doug Long (Sharon) of Coleville SK. 3 grand Children: Bradly Long (Mikayla), David Long, Nissa Long. 2 Great Grandchildren Stetson Long and Laramie Long.

June was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Sid Long 2013 and her son David Long. 2021.

June was born in Rimbey AB in 1924 and grew up in Ponoka. After graduating from high school she attended Normal school in Edmonton to become a teacher. She was posted to many schools in Alberta from Peace River, Fort McLeod, Lethbridge and East Coulee.

In East Coulee she met and married Sid Long in 1950, who worked for the CPR railway. They moved to Lacombe 1952 and purchased their only house in 1955 and lived at 4416 C&E trail for 50 years. Sons David arrived in 1956 and Doug in 1958.

June worked at the Lacombe post office for over 30 years.

June was an avid gardener and flower enthusiast winning several awards for the best gardens in Lacombe. June and Sid were both avid senior bowlers, league bowling twice a week and going on many bowling tours for over 15 years. June and Sid loved to Travel by bus tours. They toured Florida and most of the lower 48. Other tours included cross Canada, Alaska and several places in Europe and Australia.

June was very active well into her 80s, including a long time member of the Hospital Auxiliary board. Then in 2010  she was struck with a mysterious spinal disease that took her from being very active to a wheel chair bound in a matter of 2 weeks. She was in the Lacombe Hospital Long-term care facility from July 2010 until she passed away on June 1st 2024. Her mind was sharp and active until the end. She was an crossword enthusiast, loved jigsaw puzzles and any other word games, and could best anyone at scrabble with scores well in to the 400s.

June was loved and respected by all of her family and friends.

Ever staff member at the long-term care facility said that she was their easiest patient and never had a bad word or complaint.

Cremation has been completed and there is a Family Graveside Service planned for August of 2024 at the Fairview Cemetery, Lacombe, Alberta.
