Karen Bottomley Obituary

Our wonderful wife and mother, Karen Jeanne Bottomley, passed peacefully on Friday, March 2, 2018 after a long battle with early onset dementia.  She was 67 years old.

Born in Hawaii, Karen lived on both the east and west coast of the US throughout her childhood. Graduating in Massachusetts, Karen pursed a passion for history at both Loma Linda University and the University of Toronto, also taking time to live and study in Spain.

Karen lived in Lacombe for 30 years, teaching history and business at Burman University (formerly Canadian University College).  She was an enthusiastic teacher who is fondly remembered for making history charismatic and dynamic for her students. Karen was the Dean of Arts at the time of her retirement.

She is survived by her husband, Richard; and daughters, Alison and Cynthia, all of Lacombe. She has an older brother, David in California. For the last five years she has been a resident of the Memory Care Cottage at Royal Oak Village in Lacombe.

We are immensely grateful to Karen’s care providers especially the members of Team 1 of the Memory Care Cottage who showed Karen great love and care these last few years.
