Keith "Skip" Melville Murphy

June 12, 1945 ~ September 2, 2022 (age 77)

It is with great sadness that the family of Skip Murphy wishes to announce his passage into glory on September 2, 2022.   After a short battle with cancer Skip passed away unexpectedly  at home in his sleep at the age of 77 years.

Skip will be lovingly remembered and missed by his wife of 55 years, Darlene,  his 4 children, Karen (Greg) Lightburn, Sharon Keim (Jamie Dawe),  Douglas (Crystal) Murphy, and Wayne (Lori) Murphy.   He will also be forever cherished by his grandchildren and great grandchildren whom he held very close to his heart.  Cole (Nicole), Nixen; Jordyn (Danny Nolan), Kacey, Andie, Aiden; & Wade Lightburn.  Maia (Shane Fenger), baby; Jayda; Abbey; & Cael Keim.  Calvin; Reina; Walker; & Nadelle Murphy.  Ross; Evan & Cali Murphy.

Skip was born June 12, 1945 in Mossbank, SK.  Later that year their family moved to the family farm south of Blackfalds.  As a little fella,  Keith “skipped” along behind his Uncle Witt doing chores on the farm.   Therefore he forever gained the nickname Skip.  Being the youngest of 6 children for the first 12 years of his life he was the apple of his mother’s eye.   Skip always loved animals, especially border collie puppies, 4H calves, & his beloved short horn cattle.

Skip’s life changed forever twice; first in the early 1980’s when he met the Lord and dedicated his life to serving and loving Jesus.   The second on April 26, 1994 upon the arrival of his first grandchild, when he forever became “Poppa”.  Skip spent countless hours reading to his grandchildren, touring them around the farm, and attending their sporting and music events.  Grandchildren were his pride and joy and he couldn’t express loud enough how proud of them he was.  He was always patient and had a listening ear.

Skip loved the outdoors,  gardening, and raising his shorthorn cows.  He was involved in Scouts,  both as a child and a leader.  He coached baseball, attended outdoor education camps, and never missed a school concert or event with his children.  At the same time he operated a successful electrical business, Skip’s Electric Ltd. and operated a full time farming operation. Later in life Skip enjoyed painting and collecting antique treasures in his “Cozy Cabin”.  Skip was a loving husband and spent 55 years with the love of his life.

For I am not ashamed of this Good News about Christ.  It is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes…”  Romans 1:16a
