It is with deep sorrow and much love that we announce the passing of John "Kirby" Leggatt, age 87, (July 25, 1938) of Clive, Alberta. Kirby passed away peacefully on June 29, 2026, at the Lacombe Hospital, surrounded by the love of his family.

Kirby is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 62 years, Shirley, and his five children: Kerry Leggatt, Dennis Leggatt, Cindy Jamieson and her husband Ken, Brad Leggatt and his wife Janelle, and Krista Jones and her husband Mathew. Lovingly including nine grandchild, and six great grandchildren. 

He leaves behind his siblings Arthur Leggatt, and Linda Mayer and husband Jamie. Also many family members and friends from the Miramichi, NB who will cherish the memories they shared with him.

Kirby found joy in life's simple pleasures. He loved watching the birds in his yard and was sure to keep the feeders full.  He was a devoted Toronto Blue Jays fan who never missed cheering on his favorite team. He rarely came home without flowers for his beloved Shirley and enjoyed painting just about anything he could put a brush to. He was also well known within the family for his legendary conservation of Kleenex—a running family joke that will continue to bring smiles for years to come.

One of Kirby's greatest accomplishments was his unwavering commitment to the AA program. For nearly 34 years, he lived a life of sobriety, strength, and service, offering hope, encouragement, and support to others along the way. His dedication was an inspiration to many and a testament to his resilience. Memorial donations in honour of Kirby can be made to your local AA Program.

His love and gentle spirit will be deeply missed but forever remembered.
