Larry Medd Obituary

Larry Medd passed with the love of family by his side on Friday, September 28, 2018 at the age of 76 years. Larry was born in Calgary, Alberta on October 10, 1941, the eldest child of Stanley Medd & Elsie (nee Schierman). Larry was a devoted and loving husband of 55 years to his wife Kathy (nee Reeson). Together they raised their two children; Daryl (Sandra) and Kari (Russ). He was a grandfather to Kirsten (Dan) and  Alexander; Tamas, Dylan and Desiree. Larry was brother to Valerie (Paul) and Bryce (Dawn). He was a special part of the lives of his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

Family and friends were highly valued by Larry. He loved having his family around the table for dinner. He was proud of all the milestones and accomplishments that his children and grandchildren achieved. It was a priority for Larry to remain in contact with friends old and new and he always made a point of trying to connect whenever he traveled, near or far.

Larry began his working years as the owner/operator of a tow truck in the city of Calgary. After marrying Kathy in 1963, he began working for CN Telecommunications moving to points along the Alaska Highway until they settled in Watson Lake, Yukon in 1965. He began his own business in 1968. Sno-Land Services provided transport to northern communities and transitioned to a sand, gravel and concrete operation until 1979  when he moved with his family to Grande Prairie. He remained in the industry managing sand, gravel and concrete operations for Revelstoke Companies until moving to Edmonton in 1987. In Edmonton, Larry was the Executive Director of the Alberta Ready-Mixed Concrete Association, followed by three years on the board of the  WCB Appeals Commission. Within that time he became known as Mr. Concrete, a featured speaker at Home and Design Shows across North America. He enjoyed this part of his career immensely. Larry and Kathy retired in 2010 and moved to Lacombe, AB in 2012.

During retirement they had many excursions in their motorhome and enjoyed several winters as snowbirds.  He was an active volunteer in each community that he lived in and always enjoyed meeting and sharing stories with people.
