Lawney Harmesynn Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Lawney Ward Harmesynn on February 7, 2026, at the age of 86. Born on January 15, 1940, in Humboldt, Saskatchewan, Lawney lived a life defined by humour, craftsmanship, adventure, and unwavering devotion to the people he loved.

Lawney’s infectious smile and hearty laugh were trademarks of a playful spirit that stayed with him throughout his life. His siblings will forever remember the elaborate, good-natured pranks that became a hallmark of their family bond — memories that still bring laughter to those who recall them.

A gifted craftsman, Lawney possessed an extraordinary ability to build anything he set his mind to. Over the years, he lovingly constructed many homes for his family, each crafted with care, precision, and unmistakable warmth. Many spaces bore his signature love of the colour green, a reflection of his unique personality and creative touch. His patience, skill, and dedication inspired admiration from all who knew him. Lawney formed friendships that lasted a lifetime.

His door was always open - you could drop in for a coffee at any time, knowing you’d be met with good conversation, a laugh, and the comfort of his easygoing presence. That simple hospitality became one of the many ways he quietly cared for the people around him. He was loyal, dependable, and steadfast — the kind of person others knew they could count on.

Lawney’s adventurous spirit led him across the globe, exploring the jungles of Costa Rica, the sacred temples of Cambodia, the serene mountains of northern Thailand, and the vibrant beauty of El Salvador and Nicaragua. True to his nature, he often chose the unbeaten path, collecting stories, friendships, and experiences that enriched his life and the lives of those around him. He also had a great love for the outdoors, whether fishing, hunting, or simply soaking in nature, he treasured every moment.

He leaves behind five children who will carry his memory in their hearts: Jocelan (Clayton), Melissa (Peter), Steffany (Tim), Croft (Angela), and Turc. He will also be dearly missed by his grandchildren: Calen (Estelle), Kyle (Katrina), Jesokah, Cassie (Neil), Casey, Zac, Justus, Damian, Kelsey, Finnaveer, Soda, and Zephyrus, along with his many great-grandchildren.

Lawney is fondly remembered by his surviving siblings: Jeanette, Donna, Dianne, and Clifford. He is predeceased by his parents, Lester and Josephine Harmeson, and siblings Evelyn, Beverly “Pinky,” Veral, Bruce, and Clayton “Buck.”

In accordance with his wishes, there will be no formal funeral service. Though he may no longer walk beside us, Lawney’s spirit lives on — in the stories told, the laughter shared, and the countless memories held by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

May he rest peacefully, surrounded by the love he so generously gave during his lifetime.
