Lonnie Coley Obituary

Lonnie “Lon” Harold Coley was born on December 8, 1954 in Barrhead, Alberta to parents Harold and Jean Coley.  He was the oldest of three children.

Lon passed away on October 15, 2023 at the age of 68 in Red Deer Hospice surrounded by his wife and their three children after a brief but difficult battle with cancer.

Lon was raised on a farm near Fort Assiniboine.  In 1975, he moved to Edmonton to attend Grant MacEwan College in the Business Administration program majoring in property management.  He met Marilyn Paulgaard at college and they were married on April 1, 1978. Together they raised three wonderful children and were blessed with seven grandchildren.  Nothing brought a smile to Papa’s face faster than when he was with his grandchildren.  Lon started his career in industrial sales and later became an outside sales manager for Western Canada, specializing in the mining industry.  Lon loved hunting, fishing, camping, and spending time at the lake.  He spent many hours reading books about the old west, history, astronomy and trivia.  He enjoyed every sport, either by playing or watching them.  One of his favorite pastimes was watching NFL football on Sunday.  Lon also loved exploring the world through travel.  One of his goals was to see every state in the USA.  He seen all but seven and the experiences filled his heart with joy.

Lon will be forever missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 45 years: Marilyn; their three children: Lonnie (Christine) Coley, Anna-Marie (Vahn) Byma, and Katrina (Roger) Coley-Kim; their seven grandchildren: Liam, Rachael, Marshall, Price, Troy, Jasper and Layla; his siblings: Karen (Don) Carter, and Larry Coley; his brothers in law and sisters in law: Danny (Lynn) Paulgaard, Elmer (Annette) Paulgaard, Valerie (Lynnsay) Feser, and Lorne (Cindy) Paulgaard; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
