Lorraine (de Vries) Havinga

Lorraine Havinga went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, May 16, 2024. She is survived by her four children, Ann Meindersma, Agnes (Bert) Wadman, Evelyn (Ernie) Emmelkamp, and Fred (Kathy) Havinga, 11 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, her sister Minke Breukelman and numerous extended family members. She is predeceased by her husband Paul Havinga, son in law Dick Meindersma, and infant son. 

Lorraine was born in Rinsumageast, Friesland on February 16, 1926. The fourth child of six to Jan and Anne de Vries. She went to school until grade 7 and then started milking cows at the age of 14. She married Paul in 1949 and had two children Ann and Agnes. In 1957 they immigrated to Canada, where they worked in Edson and had Evelyn. Four years later they purchased a farm by Bashaw and had their son Fred. 

Lorraine enjoyed working on the dairy with Paul and the kids until they sold the farm and moved to Rosedale Valley in 1983. In 1995 Paul passed away and she moved to a duplex in town. Lorraine had many hobbies that kept her busy like volunteering, knitting, puzzle books, holding babies, and enjoying her church community. She eventually moved to the Lodge in Lacombe and loved her life there. 

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2024 at 2:00 pm at Bethel Christian Reformed Church.
