Luke Edward Mather Obituary

Luke Edward Mather

August 3, 1982 - October 5, 2019

Luke Edward Mather was born August 3, 1982, a loved son to Christine Aalhus, and first-born grandson and nephew, and oldest cousin in his Aalhus family. His early childhood years were happy ones, growing up in Rocky Mountain House, and Red Deer, AB, and graduating from Lacombe Composite High School. Luke participated in his younger years in cub scouts, band, soccer, and in later years in football, then mountain biking. He was a lifelong sports fan, especially the Boston Bruins, NASCAR and trophy truck racing. As a boy he liked maps and world geography, leading him on many vacations to warm destinations; his favorite was Las Vegas. Luke completed a degree in Political Science at the University of Lethbridge, thereafter working in concrete foundations, before developing a successful career in pile driving where there are big trucks and big rigs. He loved working in Alberta’s oil industry, the bigger the job, the greater the adventure, thriving in high-pressure opportunities, a job well done and a story or two along the way. Luke faced the unexpected downturn in the industry, and the ongoing political environment with resiliency, always hoping and never quitting. Luke was mourning the recent loss of his Nanna, Dorothy Aalhus, with whom he enjoyed spirited debates. Luke had a sudden cardiac arrest and his family would like to express gratitude for the efforts of responding Lacombe EMT and ER staff. Luke leaves behind to cherish his memory his faithful dog Mac; his Mum, Christine; his Auntie Jen (Ross), cousins Mica and Glen Pettibone; his Uncle Andy (Carolyn), cousins Matias, Analiese, Kate and Mikaila Aalhus; extended Aalhus and Mather (Orcutt) families; and many friends and professional colleagues in the Alberta oil industry. Love you forever Luke. Keep on rolling coal!
