Mabel Violet (Werner) Spenst Obituary

Mabel Violet (nee Werner) Spenst was born in Fox Valley, Saskatchewan to Isaac and Lydia Werner on June 23, 1933, and passed to her rest Dec.14, 2024. She had 2 younger siblings, Duwain and Vera.


In the summer of 1951, her parents moved to Lacombe, Alberta, so she and her siblings could attend Canadian Union College.


Mabel met and fell in love with Henry Spenst while participating in Saskatoons camp meeting, summer of 1955. They were married in September 1956. She then joined him on his farm in Debden Sask. Two children were added to the union, first, son Brian and later daughter Donna.


In 1963, the Spenst family relocated to Lacombe, Alberta, where Henry farmed and did carpentry work and later established a dairy operation in the Woody Nook area. Mabel fully supported the operation and in addition became an avid gardener.


Both Mabel and Henry were active members in the College Hights Adventist Church. Henry serving as a deacon and Mabel head deaconess for 19 years.


In 2000 the couple retired from their farm and moved into the city of Lacombe.


Mabel is predeceased by her brother Gorden and her parents, Isaac and Lydia Werner, husband Henry, and brother Duwain.


She leaves to mourn her son Brian (Debbie) their 3 sons Cy (Stephanie), Vince (Amanda), and Gary (Ashley), her daughter Donna Reid- Lima, granddaughter Ricki (Shawn), ten great grandchildren, sister Vera (Ken), and a host of relatives and friends.


A Funeral Service will be held at College Heights Seventh-Day Adventist Church (6910 University Dr, Lacombe) on Friday, January 31, 2024 at 1:00 p.m.
