Macky Watt Obituary

WATT, Macky David

1940 - 2021

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Macky David Watt of Innisfail on April 13, 2021. Macky was born April 6, 1940 in Carraganna, Saskatchewan, the 7th of 9 children born to Jack and Signe (Rosbak) Watt. Times were tough and making ends meet after his father was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, was difficult. So, as soon as they were old enough, he and his brothers took jobs in logging or whatever they could find, sending money home to their parents. Macky eventually settled on a career in the oil patch, working with Cantex Drilling then Jomax Drilling where he remained until his retirement. He was a hard worker, quickly rising to the position of rig manager. He loved his job, kept the rig in top shape, made safety a priority, didn’t suffer slackers gladly and loved playing pranks on new lease hands. He very much enjoyed the company of the guys he worked with and social gatherings, swapping stories were occasions he lived for.

Macky was a big sports fan and after retiring, he enjoyed watching football, baseball & especially hockey and was a loyal Edmonton Oilers fan to the end. And when he could, he loved to come out and watch his great nephews, Brandon, and Josh play Lacrosse, and Nickoli play hockey. Other enjoyments were camping in his 5th wheel across Saskatchewan and Alberta and family vacations in Mexico.

Macky was predeceased by his beloved daughter, Colleen; his parents Jack and Signe Watt; his brothers, Donald, John and Gerry; his sisters Marion Bell & Marjorie Nelson. Left to mourn his loss and celebrate his life are his sister Edna Beecher, his brothers Bill (Elaine) Watt and Gordon (Lou) Watt, a special niece, Melanie McNalley (Ivan, Nickoli) and her children, Brandon, and Joshua. Also left to mourn are many other special nieces, nephews, family members and friends. All will miss his great smile. Many thanks to Dr Henry and the staff at the Innisfail Hospital for their kind and compassionate care.

Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will take place at a later time.
