Malcolm McLachlan, fondly known as Mal, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2023, at the age of 72. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and countless cherished memories.
Mal is survived by his devoted wife of 50 years, Mary Sue. He was a loving father to his daughter Amy (Phil) and his son Tim (Robyn). His pride and joy extended to his grandchildren Sebastian, Oliver, Hazel, and Quentin. He is also affectionately remembered by his brothers Duncan (Judy) and Robert (Joan), and sisters Kathy (Ron) and Jean (Harvey) as well as his brother-in law Jim Jardine and sister-in-law Mary Jardine.
In addition to his immediate family, Mal's warm spirit touched the lives of so many. He had a broad network of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews who held a special place in his heart. His extensive circle of friends and family shared in his journey of life.
Mal's passion for woodworking led him to become a skilled cabinet maker, and he was the proud owner of the Shaper Shop for over three decades which first opened in Cochrane before moving to Bentley, Alberta. Beyond his craftsmanship, Mal had an enduring love for sports and enjoyed fishing, golfing and baseball. However, his greatest passion was people. His infectious laugh and genuine interest in others made him a beloved figure in the community. Mal's generosity knew no bounds, as he willingly shared his time and talents with anyone in need.
To honour Mal's remarkable life, a casual open house celebration will be held at the Summer Village of Gull Lake Community Hall on Friday August 25, 2023 from 1pm to 5pm. This gathering will be a testament to the connections he forged and the impact he had on those fortunate enough to know him.
If friends so desire memorial tributes can be made to a Charity of your choice.
