It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Marguerite Graziella (nee Preville) Rowland. She passed away peacefully May 1, 2023 at the age of 83 years with her girls by her side. She was fortunate enough to spend all of her days in her favorite place, home.
Marguerite is survived by her son, Mark (Debra) Heemeryck; daughters, Rhonda (Robert) Slater and Liana (Clayton) Steinley; grandchildren Bryce, Ryan, Kelsey, Savannah, and Taylor; siblings, Roger (Rose) Preville, Muriel (Alan) McConaghy, Jeannine Robinson (Hector), Irene (Larry) West, Jules (Janice) Preville, Sylvia Wawrykow; and numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Marguerite is predeceased by her parents, Armand and Elaine Preville; sister, Suzanne Magnon; brother, Ray Preville; brothers-in-law, Emil Magnon & Frank Robinson; and sister-in-law, Joanne Preville.
Mom was born and raised in the community of St. Paul. She attended school in St. Edouard, Therien, Alberta. After moving to Edmonton as a young girl, she worked various jobs in retail and hospitality industry. As one of the 2nd oldest siblings of 9, she was always generous with the little bit she earned and treated her younger siblings. She married and had her first child in 1964, a son Mark, and two years later a daughter, Rhonda and then 16 months later, Liana was born. This kept Mom very busy having two in diapers at one time. She worked outside of the home as well.
In 1979, she moved with her children to Ponoka for a couple of years, not long after, settling in Lacombe. She tried her hand at many jobs then found her perfect fit by starting her own business “Classic Cleaners”. Mom had a great detail, you could take a white glove test after the house was cleaned. After 13 years of cleaning, she retired to spend time in her large backyard, enjoying her flower beds and creating herself work projects.
In 2010 she moved to Chateau of Lacombe where she took great pride in being in her own home still at 83 years old. She kept busy with sewing and baking, both she was extremely good at. Mom’s health declined with her being on oxygen 24 hrs day but her resilience kept her at home until her final 4 days. Her girls will miss their daily check0ins and chats which she loved. Our memories will be forever in our hearts.
No more pain.
Goodbyes are not forever or the end but simply mean I’ll miss you till we meet again. We love you, Mom.
Private Family Services will be held at the Spruce Grove Cemetery at a later date.
