Melvin Richard "Dick" Morris Obituary

It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Melvin Richard (Dick) Morris, who passed away on June 30th, in Lacombe, at the age of 84. Dick was a man whose presence, warmth, and enduring spirit left an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Dick spent his entire life in the Lacombe area, deeply rooted in the community he loved. Alongside his skilled and loving wife, Karen, he farmed west of Lacombe from the time he started milking cows as a kid until he retired. A hard worker who knew the value of good fun, Dick semi-retired at the age of 55, allowing him to enjoy many well-deserved years camping and doing what he loved most: fishing, especially out on Buck Lake and Gull Lake.

He was an avid outdoorsman who had many adventures hunting with his friends and family, making memories that will be shared for generations. Dick also excelled at woodworking; a skilled builder, his craftsmanship lives on in the many barns, shops, and houses he worked to construct over the years.

Dick was well-known for his incredible sense of humor. He had a joke ready for every situation, bringing endless eye-rolls and laughter to those around him. Above all, he had a heart for helping others. He contributed in countless ways to better the lives of his family and friends. His community spirit shone through his long-standing membership with the Lacombe Fish and Game Association, as well as his dedication to Lincoln Hall, where he generously contributed both his time and money and helped to lay the groundwork for the new hall.

Dick leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Karen Morris; his beloved children, Gordon Morris (Cindy-Louise) of Lacombe, and Dena Boyle (Craig) of Edmonton; his doted on grandchildren, Max Morris (Lacombe), Kirena, Robin, and Caitlin Boyle (Edmonton), Nikki Morris (Lacombe); step-grandchildren, Ralph Meinema (Mel), Andrew Renaud and Christine Trider (Jesse); sister, Elizabeth Watson (Calgary) and his brother, Jim Morris (Lacombe); six great step-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and many good friends.

Dick was predeceased by his parents, Melvin and Nellie Morris of Lacombe, brother Esten Morris (Lacombe), and sisters Isabelle George (Prince George) and Melvena Lynn (Lacombe); nephew David Morris (Clive); brother-in-laws Dave Watson (Calgary), Jay Lynn (Edmonton), and Willie Ebeling (Lacombe).

The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at Lacombe Continuing Care and to his caring doctor for the compassionate care Dick received.

A service to celebrate Dick’s life will be held on July 16th at 2:00 p.m. at Lincoln Hall.
