Neil Daniel Johnson

Neil Daniel Johnson of Lacombe, AB passed away on Saturday, November 1, 2025 at the age of 98 years.

Neil was born May 28, 1927, in Milo, AB to Alex and Vera Johnson.  He was the oldest of five children.  The family moved to the Lacombe area when Neil was 15, where they farmed for many years.

Neil loved anything to do with trucks and began driving in 1945.  He was married in 1956 and continued his driving career through which time his daughter, Barbara, was born in 1960.  After many years on the road, he and his wife decided to go farming west of Lacombe in the Lincoln District in 1967.  To add to the farming income, Neil drove school bus for the County of Lacombe for 10 years.  He then made the decision to go back to driving trucks as that was his passion and continued to do so until the age of 73.

During his off time, Neil enjoyed snowmobiling and spent a great deal of time in the mountains.  In the summer months, off time included motorcycling adventures throughout Albert and BC.

Neil spent many hours in his later years in restaurants in and around Lacombe having coffee with friends and acquaintances as he was a great conversationalist and enjoyed his chats with people.  His first question was always “are you from around this area” which would lead to hours of conversing.

Neil is survived by his only child, Barbara Lubbers; two grandchildren, Courtney Tibando (Joey) and Linden Lubbers (Emily); six great grandchildren, Kane, Grady, Chloe, Brinley, Bo and Breuer; as well as extended family and dear friends.

At Neil’s request, no service will be held.  There will be a private family inurnment at the Tees Cemetery at a later date.
