Neil Gerald Miller

Neil Gerald Miller of Lacombe, Alberta, passed away peacefully in the Lacombe Hospital on September 15, 2025, at the age of 90.

Neil is survived by his loving wife, Jean, of 60 years; and his children and grandchildren:

- Karen and Colin Smith (Kayleigh and Austin); 

- David and Maureen Miller (Skye and Jorian, Jonathon);

- Kathryn Miller and Catherine Worthy (Rebecca); 

- Bruce and Megan Miller (Luke and Cara, Taryn); 

Neil was also blessed with two great grandchildren Nash and Harper.

Neil is predeceased by his parents John and Viola Miller; and his brother Les Miller.

Neil was born in Vegreville, but grew up on the farm near Spruce Grove. Neil attended high school in Stony Plain and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from the University of Alberta in 1959. Neil began his work career with Lands Branch, leading into a successful career of 40 years as a district agriculturist and crop specialist in Alberta. Throughout his career, Neil was instrumental in many agriculture activities, committees/organizations and publications. Neil’s family is especially proud of Neil receiving the 1992 A.I.A. Distinguished Agrologist Award for his significant contributions in agricultural extension throughout Alberta. 

Neil was an involved and dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. His face lit up when any of his loved ones entered a room. Neil’s love for Jean and their commitment to each other is unmatched. He took great pride in his children’s accomplishments, especially watching their families grow. Neil found great joy and shared wonderful memories with family and friends at the “Clachan” at Clear Lake. Game nights, potlucks, camping, making fruit leather and apple pie are some of the simple things that gave him so much joy.

Anyone who had the privilege of knowing Neil will remember him as a kind and gentle soul with a twinkle in his eye. He enjoyed any opportunity to share a story, crack a joke and partake in a nice drink of Scotch. Neil was a wonderful man who loved his family with all of his heart.

We would also like to thank all of the amazing staff at the Lacombe Hospital and Homecare Staff at Royal Oak who not only cared for Neil, but built relationships with him. These incredible individuals were so important in helping Neil and his family navigate this past while. 

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated St. Stephen Catholic Church (5128 53 St, Lacombe) on Saturday, September 20, 2025 at 2:00 p.m.
