Nicholas Stephen LaBrash, CD (July 19, 1985) originally of Peterborough, Ontario, passed away on September 11, 2025, after facing cancer with unshakable strength, grace, and quiet defiance. He didn’t lose a battle - he lived with courage until the very end, and on his way out he left cancer with a few choice words.
Nick was born to Jane (Paul) Marsden and Steve (Angela) LaBrash, and grew up with a love of golf, hockey, and sports in general. From an early age, he carried himself with loyalty, integrity, and respect - qualities that guided him throughout his life. He served Canada with honour as a Corporal in the Special Forces in Ottawa, deploying to Iraq and earning the deep respect of his brothers-in-arms. He retired in 2016, returning to Alberta and settling in Blackfalds with the love of his life.
While posted in Edmonton, Nick met Lindsay (nee Hogg). What began as friendship quickly grew into love. After eight years together, and two moves across Canada, they married in 2020. Nick was the true definition of a gentleman, and he built a life with Lindsay that was rooted in devotion, laughter, and enduring love.
Upon returning to Alberta, Nick quickly found worked as a gunsmith at Red Deer Shooting Centre, and built many friendships that became lifelong bonds. People respected Nick not because he demanded it, but because he lived in a way that naturally earned it. Plus his chirps were always on point.
Together, Nick and Lindsay welcomed their greatest joys: Andie in 2021, and Theodore in 2024. Becoming a father was Nick’s proudest role, and he poured his heart into raising his children with the same strength and gentleness that defined him. Andie has inherited her dad’s quick wit, while Teddy will grow up knowing that his father was a warrior.
Nick is survived by his wife, Lindsay; his children, Andie and Theodore; fur-child Diesel; his parents, Jane (Paul) Marsden and Steve (Angela) LaBrash; parents-in-law Iris and Casey Hogg; his grandparents, Aileen and Ray LaBrash; his sister, Jessi (Jon) Blanchard and nephew, Jackson; his brother, Jamie LaBrash and nephew, Karsyn; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law Robyn and Adam Shackleton along with nephews Hunter and Hestynn, and niece Paisley; as well as extended family and many many dear friends.
He was predeceased by his grandparents, Gwyn and Ben LeClair.
Nick will always be remembered as a man of quiet strength, respect, and unwavering love. He was a soldier, warrior, craftsman, devoted husband, and proud father. His story is not one of defeat. It is a legacy of love, loyalty, and strength.
