Paul Johnson Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Paul Hugh Johnson, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Paul passed away unexpectedly on March 27, 2025, at the age of 76 at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre.

Paul proudly served with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) beginning in 1970, dedicating years of service in Saskatchewan, the Northwest Territories, and Alberta. His time in the RCMP was a source of great pride, and after retiring from the force in 1995, he channeled his passion for people and his sharp business sense into a successful career in automotive sales. His talent in the field was undeniable, earning him numerous awards and the admiration of both colleagues and customers.

Paul had a natural gift for connecting with others. Whether he was chatting with locals at an auction, scouting out the best deals, or “talking it up” with his grandkids, his warmth and humor were always present. He loved a good road trip, especially behind the wheel of his 2010 Dodge Challenger, but no matter where he traveled, he was always eager to return home and find his next great deal.

An outdoorsman at heart, Paul found joy in hunting, fishing, and camping, though he would readily admit that Elaine, “Mom,” was the better shot. He enjoyed tearing up the trails on his side-by-side—his “bicycle”—and cherished time spent quadding with family. He had a keen appreciation for nature, delighting in the sight of baby colts racing through the fields each spring.

Paul was a dedicated hockey coach, mentoring his son and Junior B teams, inspiring young players to be their best. His commitment to helping others extended beyond his own family—he and Elaine opened their hearts and home as foster parents for many years, providing love and stability to children in need.

He was a proud Toronto Maple Leafs and Saskatchewan Roughriders fan and had a deep love for Stompin’ Tom Connors, Willie Nelson, the Irish Rovers, and East Coast music. His sense of humor, generosity, and unwavering support for his loved ones will leave an immeasurable void.

Paul is deeply missed by: His beloved wife of 52 years, Elaine Louise Johnson; His children, Alana Lynn (Brent) Dueck and Michael Scott (Tammy) Johnson; His grandchildren, Ethan, Kayla, Austin, Garrett, and Tanner; His siblings, Irma (Rick) Reynolds, Gloria (Russell) Johnston, Michael (Val) Johnson, and David (Debbie) Johnson; And many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Paul is reunited with those who passed before him: His parents Melvin Paul Johnson, Dorothy Mae McCully and his grandson, Jayden Scott Johnson
