Robert Light Obituary

Robert Murray Light, July 6 1925 – November 30 2025

Bob Light was born in Drumheller, Alberta to parents Jack and Iva Light.  Shortly after Bob’s birth the family moved to Peace River Country where Bob’s father was part of the Alberta Provincial Police.  The family soon followed a calling to homestead north of Hythe, Alberta.  Bob recounts “the years on the homestead were the best years of my life”.  The Light family now consisting of 3 brothers moved from the homestead to Hythe where Bob completed the rest of his schooling.  Soon after school Bob became an electrician and eventually opened his own business in Fairview, Alberta where he met Barbara Davis.  They were married in 1948.  Children followed: Gail (Harold Litke), Jim (Sylvia), Wendy (Bob Opheim) and Jeff (Sharon/first wife and Karen/second wife).  The Bob Light family moved to Red Deer, Alberta in 1960 where Bob again opened an electrical contracting business.  He lived in Red Deer for the rest of his life and was active outside of work with Kinsmen, K40 and Elks.  Bob is predeceased by his wife Barbara in 1998.  There will be no funeral.  Bob’s cremated ashes will be spread on the banks of the Peace River next to Barbara’s.  The Anglican Book of Common Prayer states: “In sure and certain hope of the resurrection to eternal life through our Lord Jesus Christ, we commend to Almighty God our brother Bob ; and we commit his body to the ground; earth to earth; ashes to ashes, dust to dust. The Lord bless him and keep him, the Lord make his face to shine upon him and be gracious unto him and give him peace.  Amen.”
