Roderick 'Mac' Mac DONALD of Gull Lake, Alberta, passed away on Tuesday, June 9th, 2026, at the age of 72 years.

Born on May 15th, 1954, in Calgary, Alberta, Mac was the second child of Don and Eileen MacDonald, and younger brother to his sister, Sandy. They were raised in Calgary, where Mac developed a lifelong passion for sports and the friendships they fostered. Through hockey, baseball, and golf, he met many of his best friends and, most importantly, met his wife, Rosalie, at a slow pitch tournament.

Six months after first meeting, following what was surely some determined coaxing by Mac to persuade Rosalie to make the move from Australia to Canada, Mac and Rosalie were engaged and married shortly thereafter in 1989. They later welcomed their son, Andrew, and daughter, Robyn. Mac cherished his role as a father and found his greatest pride in watching his children grow into remarkable adults. Mac and Rosalie celebrated their 37th year of marriage in the spring before his passing.

Throughout his life, Mac worked a variety of hands-on jobs, including electrical work in remote areas of Alberta and laying seismic lines in the Canadian Arctic. His first entrepreneurial venture was a home building company — a role he remembered fondly, particularly because it gave him the opportunity to build houses for some of his closest friends. At some point along the way — though exactly when, and perhaps how, remains a bit of a mystery — Mac completed enough night courses at the University of Calgary to earn a position as a Project Manager with Lawson. Later, he returned to his entrepreneurial roots and devoted himself to building Bold Signs and Graphics, a company that remains in the family today.

Mac will be lovingly remembered by his remaining family; Rosalie, Andrew, Robyn and Sandy; along with all those that knew him, for his wit, infamous one-liners, calming demeanour, humour, and, of course, his lifelong love for his dogs — Paddy, Abbey, Jenny, and especially Archie, his loyal favourite and constant companion.
