Roland Lucien Pilote (1944– 2023)

Roland Lucien Pilote, 79, of Rimbey, Alberta, died on October 6, 2023. Roland Lucien Pilote was born in Blackpool England on July 30, 1944 to Lucien & Muriel Pilote near the end of World War II. Lucien Pilote was in the Canadian Armed Forces in England building bridges when he met Muriel, got married and had their first born Roland. When Lucien was sent back to Canada he sent for his wife and child to join him in Quebec. Roland spent most of his childhood in St Catherine’s Quebec and at the age of 18 Roland enlisted in the Canadian Navy and served for 25 years based out of Nova Scotia & New Brunswick. Roland retired as Master Warrant Officer and was very proud of his service to his county. Roland met the love of his life in Quebec, Sandra Gail Rimmer, in 1961 and they were married in the fall of 1964 in Ottawa. Together they raised their 4 children first in Halifax, Nova Scotia, before settling in Chathum New Brunswick. When their youngest graduated from high school in 1991 Roland retired from the Air Force and they moved with their son to Red Deer, Alberta. Roland became a jack of trades picking up odd carpenter and maintenance jobs. Roland’s passion was hunting and fishing, which he passed down to his children and grandchildren. He was his happiest salmon fishing out East or hunting and fishing out West, as well as keeping busy in the garden. He was a big animal lover and always took care of his dogs like they were one of his children, he will always be remembered for walking all over Rimbey with his black Labrador.

Roland Lucien Pilote was preceded in death by his mother Muriel Pilote and his father Lucien Pilote, and is survived by his wife Sandra Gail Pilote, sister Jacqueline (Paul) Pilote, brother John Pilote, daughters Elizabeth Pilote, Wendy Pilote (John), Michelle Pilote, and his son Nicholas Pilote (Kari), and Grandchildren; Ryan, Shannon (Cody), John Roland (Adele), Samantha (Terry), Jacqueline (Nick), Joel, Abigail (Tony), Amber, Gabriel, Jackson & Marissa, Roland also had 6 great-grandchildren.
