Sandra Whitaker Obituary

Sandra Whitaker was born in Ruislip, London, England, in 1965 and was raised in her early years in Bognor Regis. She was a loving and inquisitive child and had great fun test-driving her Dad’s black London taxi cab. In 1976, the family emigrated to Canada, where she went to high school at North Grenville in Kemptville, Ontario.

After graduation, she started working with her Mum in the family’s Winchester travel agency, where she started her 35 year career in the travel industry- a career that matched her love of discovering new places and cultures. She married in 1987 in Toronto, and their first son Shane was born in 1988, followed by daughter Shannen two years later. Sandra was a young, loving mother who adored her children and never tired of juggling her work and family life.

She continued her career working with her sister Karen and her husband Sean at Kemptville Travel when the family moved to South Mountain in 1992. Her work allowed her to travel extensively throughout the United States, the Caribbean, England and Ireland.

Sandra was always there for her family and friends even as she struggled with her own health issues when diagnosed with MS. She devoted numerous hours researching treatments and tried various possibilities along the way. As her children moved West following their own career paths, so did Sandra, where she proudly watched their progress. Her family grew as she welcomed a son-in-law, Corey, and her adorable grandson Thomas.

She truly enjoyed the simple pleasures in life – reading, music, being outdoors and spending time with family and friends.

Sandra was loved deeply and will be sadly missed by daughter Shannen (Corey), grandson Thomas, son Shane (Shiva), Mum Candy Whitaker and sister Karen Murphy, nieces and friends. She was predeceased by her father, Peter Whitaker and brother-in-law, Sean Murphy.

She lost her struggle with MS after years of bravely fighting on Oct 15, 2025, at 60 years of age, and her family wish to thank the staff of Bethany care home and Red Deer
hospital for their care.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to MS research.

Forever in our hearts – Rest in Peace Sandra. 🙏
