It is with great sadness that Shelley’s family announce her passing on Wednesday, March 23, 2022 at the Red Deer Hospital at the age of 61 years, surrounded by family and friends in the Red Deer Hospital after a long fought battle with cancer.
She will be sadly missed by her husband, Dave; her daughter Shauna (Chris) Smith; the light of her eye, grandson Beau; her son Kale; her mother Helen Andrew; her sister Diane Scoville and her brother, Darryl Andrew (Gail). She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives as well as many dear friends. Shelley was predeceased by her father Cec Andrew, 2009.
Shelley Lavonne Wierenga was born on February 3, 1961, in Red Deer, Alberta. She spent her childhood in Blackfalds, playing numerous sports, snowmobiling, and riding horses. She finished her schooling at Lacombe Composite High School. She later attended Red Deer College taking a business course. Over the next many years she worked at the Town of Blackfalds, Cooperators Insurance and the last years at AFSC.
Shelley was actively involved in many minor sport associations in Lacombe including, hockey, ringette, baseball and softball. If she wasn’t coaching or volunteering she was always cheering from the sidelines. Shelley’s other passions in life were crafting, home decorating, antiquing and collecting. When not at an arena or ball diamond, Shelley enjoyed spending time with family and friends around the backyard fire pit, camping and travelling.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to; John and Kelly Armstrong for all of their support, Dr. McKibbon and staff at Family Medical Associates, the staff at the Red Deer Cancer Clinic, the nurses and doctors on Unit 31 in the Red Deer hospital, the pharmacists at Rexall Drugs in Lacombe, and the many wonderful volunteers at The Lending Cupboard. We would also like to thank all of the friends and family who provided meals and support over the past months.
Please join us in celebrating the wonderful life of Shelley on June 10th, 2022 at the Lacombe Memorial Center at 2:00 pm. Shelley had a zest for life and a great love for her family and friends. We will celebrate a loving wife and mother, an affectionate Nan, a wonderful daughter, amazing sister, remarkable Auntie, greatest great Aunt and gracious friend by gathering together. We’ll reminisce in our memories; all the great times spent together and honor a wonderful life lived. Please join us for sandwiches, squares, coffee, tea and treasured memories of Shelley.
Later in the evening, those who wish to join will continue our celebration of her life at the Family Farm. Shelley and Dave were always out and about on day trips, or long adventures, but they always came home to their oasis. Over the years Shelley had planned, brain stormed and created a beautiful homestead that represents both her and Dave. She loved nothing more than inviting family, friends and friends of friends to come and enjoy a day or evening; and at times a whole weekend at The Farm. Many holidays, celebrations, birthdays and two breathtaking weddings have taken place there over the years. One of Shelley’s favorite summertime activities was enjoying a night on the front porch, listening to the frogs and birds, enjoying a diet coke and just relaxing or visiting. We, her family, feel it’s fitting to gather together and have one last HURRAH on a beautiful summer evening. “And in the end, it’s not the years in the life; it’s the life in the years.” SOSOMO!
