Susan Henry Obituary

It is with great sadness that John Henry announces the passing of his beloved wife of 34 yrs. Sue Henry. Sue passed away Sept 4, 2020 with John at her side after a brief battle with cancer.

Sue was born May 17, 1941 at North Middlesex County Hospital in England, a daughter to Gordon and Sheila Blackwell - Chadwick and 4 years later a big sister to her brother Richard. Sue started her quest to become a nurse at the early age of 16 and left home to pursue such. With her qualifications in Midwifery and now certified as a R.N., Sue and 3 other girls headed off to Canada landing in Halifax in 1966. She then headed to her first position in Chilliwack B.C., then to Grande Prairie and eventually ending up in a small town in the Yukon Territories. It is there she had two children, Peter and Sarah. Sue then found the love of her life, John. They moved to Lacombe and were married at St Andrews United Church in Lacombe on September 5, 1986. John and Sue made endless trips to the Yukon where John had grown up and had a small cabin by the water. They also made trips to England to visit her mother and brother and his family as well as to Las Vegas.

Sue continued in her nursing career and found herself working for the Lacombe Community Heath Center as a Home Care Nurse for many years until her retirement. Sue was well respected and loved in the community and on simple outings she would be repeatedly stopped by ex clients and their families. Sue loved to chit chat, a simple outing to get an item from the store would take longer than usual as she took time to say Hello to the workers she would get to see on a regular basis. Sue had a wonderful accent that followed her through her whole life and it added to her cheery disposition everywhere she went. Sue was a loving, caring person to all who were close to her. She was genuine in her thoughtfulness to all. Sue had a love for music, especially the voice of Seal and would repeatedly play his CD, she loved crafting and was very good at the many things she attempted. She had a love for nature especially the local birds eating from their feeders where she had a perfect view from her kitchen table and the rabbits that would stop by for a nibble and to say hello. She had a passion for flowers and their beauty.

Sue leaves to mourn her Loving Husband John; Daughter Sarah Johnston Smith and Husband Sean Smith, 3 Grandchildren, Nigel, Dylan and Azaria all of Whitehorse, Yukon Territories; Brother Richard and Wife Min from Wiltshire U.K.; Nephews, Thomas and Sam. As well as her dear friends Tina and Randy Cromwell and their family. She will be missed by many who knew her. She was predeceased by her parents Gordon and Sheila.

Donations in Sue’s memory can be sent to the Lacombe Hospital Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society
