Susan Storey Obituary

February 6, 1951- November 2, 2025

Susan Storey passed away unexpectedly at the Red Deer Regional Hospital on the morning of November 2, 2025. She was supported and comforted in her final hours, just as she would have wanted to be, with family by her side.

Susan lived a long and full life and was grateful for all the time she had to experience the joys and love of her family. While she had many pastimes, including sewing, reading, doing crossword puzzles, and cooking; she will be most remembered for her dedication and commitment to her loved ones. She took pride in taking care of everyone, from offering a willing ear when anyone called to making a favourite treat or dish for each member of the family. Her ice cream pails full of cookies toted in during a visit and meals carefully prepared for busy kids and grandkids were a welcome sight and accepted with much appreciation. The seemingly small acts that she took in her daily life greatly contributed to the overall happiness of those closest to her. She had a knack for making each person feel special and for bringing people together, which was testimony to the size of her heart. As the family continued to grow, she welcomed each new member like they were her own child or grandchild. This kind disposition extended into her interactions with others in daily life, whether coworkers through the years, community members, or new acquaintances, which was reflected through acts like sharing vegetables from their garden and extending a warm invitation to join for supper to those who stopped by. She also always loved to share a recipe or cooking tip in conversation with others. Susan represented a wonderful example to her children and grandchildren of how to treat others and the importance of valuing family and being there for them. It was inspiring how she could make time to do so many special things for everyone, no matter what she had planned or the challenges she faced. She had a tremendous devotion to reading and learning that was contagious, forming another type of bond with her family. She was a voracious reader and promoted this love for books and learning in her children and grandchildren. A favourite book or article she read became a frequent conversation piece when family called or visited. For those who knew Susan, they would have an appreciation for her admirable way with words and her unique use of wit and sarcasm in conversation that let you know you were part of the family.

Susan leaves to mourn and remember her: husband Dwayne; sons Rob and Darryl; daughter Tami (Lome); grandchildren Zak (Alethia), Kali (Dustin), Nick, and Koel; brother David (Linda); sister Linda (Russell), brother-in-law Dale, sister-in-law Loma, and special nieces and nephews. Susan was predeceased by her parents, Christina and Steven Deschner, and her brother Doug.

Sincere thanks to the staff from the Emergency Department at Red Deer Regional Hospital for the care and compassion provided to Susan and her family. Additional thanks to Dr. Singh and the staff at the Heart Function Clinic at Red Deer Regional Hospital who have offered quality care and support to Susan for several years.

A family service will be held in the coming days to honour and celebrate Susan's life. For anyone interested in making a donation in her honour, please consider donating to STARS as this charity held special meaning to her.
