Thomas Butcher Obituary

Thomas "Tom" Butcher passed away April 14, 2020 and is survived by his four children; Kerry (Marg) Butcher, Barb Butcher, Vivian Armstrong and Gail (Maynard) Bukva. He is also survived by his eight grandchildren: Don, Robina (Andrew), Valerie (Cory), Amanda, Scott, Stephanie (Brandon), Jennifer (Jade) and Nathaniel. And eight great-grandchildren: Faith, Nicholas, Terry, Samantha, Carmendy, Braxton, Maddie and Roger.

Tom was predeceased by his wife of 61 years Jerry Butcher. Together they enjoyed golfing and camping with family and friends, or just by themselves.

Tom was born in Lacombe at the beginning of the Great Depression. The youngest of 6 brothers and sisters, he was often lovingly referred to as "the caboose" by his beloved brother Jack. His formative years were spent in the Prince George area where his family had moved. Life there eventually became the source of many tales that he would love to tell in later years.

Tom greatly enjoyed woodworking and many relatives and friends have fine examples of his craftsmanship to remember him by. He also enjoyed photography and over the years was often asked by family and friends to take wedding pictures.

After a long career as a television technician, Tom retired and began researching and documenting his family history going back several hundred years. His work will undoubtedly inspire family historians for generations to come.

Due to the COVID 19 situation, a memorial tea will be held at a date to be announced at a later time.

Donations can be made in his name to the Alzheimer Association of Alberta.
