Tony Hopkins
Sept. 30, 1935 ~ Aug. 29, 2020
With heavy hearts we announce that Tony Hopkins of Lacombe passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 29, 2020 at the age of 84. Tony is survived by his son, Howard (Laurie) of Ponoka; daughter, Linda (Darren) Stanvick of Penticton, B. C., nine grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. Tony is also lovingly remembered by his sisters: Louise Hornseth of Red Deer; Elsie Green of Lacombe; Marion (Robert) Weidner of Lacombe; and Judy (Ken) Truesdale of Ottawa; as well as many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Born in Barrhead, Alberta, Tony spent the majority of his childhood in Haynes, Alberta where he developed his life-long passion for all things pertaining to wildlife and the outdoors. In 1949 the Hopkins family relocated to Lacombe where Tony met and eventually married Myrna (Boode) in 1964. Country life always beckoned to Tony so in 1975 he moved his family to the farm near Morningside where raising cattle occupied much of his time that was not spent running a gravel crushing firm – Hopkins Construction, together with his partners, Glen and Charlie Nolan.
After retirement from the gravel business, Tony spent many summer days on the golf course and continued to farm for many years. Even in his final days he spent as much time in the field as his declining energy level would allow.
Tony is predeceased by his wife, Myrna in 1999, as well as his parents, Jack and Helen Hopkins; sisters Gladys, Shirley, and Peggy; and brother, Glen.
A private service in Tony’s honour will be held on September 12, 2020. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Ducks Unlimited at https://www.ducks.ca/how-to-help/product-donations/.
