Verna Alexander Obituary

Verna Ann Alexander passed away on May 5, 2025 at the Lacombe Community Health Care Centre at the age of 92 years with family and friends by her side.

Verna was born on March 24, 1933 to Jay and Ellen Bradbury in Vegreville, Alberta.

Verna is survived by her children, Ken (Anna), Linda (Dana) Ehlert, Greg (Shirley Clayton), Laura, George, and Pati (John) Steman; her stepdaughter, Cindy (Steve) Mason; eleven grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren; four step grandchildren; her sister, Donna Friesen; brother-in-law, Elmer Berg; as well as many nieces and nephews, and close friends.

Verna raised six children on the farm northwest of Lacombe until 1977 when they moved to Lacombe.

She was known for decorating wedding cakes, making bride and bridesmaids dresses, dancing all night, and she taught all of her children how to dance.

While she spent most of her life living in Lacombe, Verna spent 14 years in Wyndell, BC with her husband, Gord Wagn.

It was there that she honed her pie making skills to make the very best peach pies.  Her and Gord grew an enormous garden.  After Gord’s passing, she moved back to Lacombe to the Senior’s Lodge.  Verna spent many happy winters in and around Yuma, Arizona where she made many friends who shared her love of card and board games.

Verna was a Reiki Master.  She treated many people and also taught classes to many others.  She loved painting and her family have many paintings displayed in their homes.  Verna sold and donated many of her paintings as well.

She was predeceased by her husband, Gord; sister, Louise Berg; stepdaughter, Colleen Wright; step granddaughter, Chelsea Mason.

A Tea in Celebration of Verna will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2025 at the Lacombe Legion from 12-4pm.

No formal funeral will be held.  Interment will take place at the Loverna Cemetery, Loverna SK at a later date.

Donations can be made to the donor’s choice.
