With deep love and gratitude, the family of Virginia Sharon (Hueppelsheuser) Bolseng shares that she passed away peacefully on Friday, October 3, 2025, at Rimbey Valley View Manor, aged 79.
Virginia leaves a legacy of strength, resilience, and love. She is lovingly remembered by her son Scott Sweetman and Fleur of Lethbridge; granddaughters Katrina and Sabrina; her son Glen Sweetman of Regina; and her brother and sister in-law Dennis and Linda Hueppelsheuser, their children, Tracy, Darren and Candice and their families. She was predeceased by her parents, H. Merlin and Verna Hueppelsheuser; her first husband, Stanley William Sweetman; and Wayne Bolseng.
Virginia was born in Lacombe, Alberta, to Herbert “Merlin” Hueppelsheuser and Verna Eva (Taylor). She grew up near Blackfalds, and attended school in Bentley. On the family farm she learned early the values that shaped her life: work hard, look after family, and do what’s right even when it’s difficult.
At eighteen, Virginia married her High School sweetheart Stanley William Sweetman on October 24, 1964, in Lacombe. The young couple lived and ran Sweetman Dairy. Virginia’s determination and ability to shoulder responsibility were hallmarks of those years. After two years they started a family, they had two children, Scott and Glen. When life later took a different turn, Virginia faced it straight on. She moved to Red Deer with her two young sons and worked three jobs to provide for them. They always had what mattered most: love, dignity, fresh starts for school, homemade costumes and clothes, and a mother who showed up every time. She took the boys fishing, to watch stock-car races at the nearby track, to the local fair and on many other adventures, creating laughter-filled memories even when money was tight and the learning curve was steep
.
In time, she remarried and became Virginia Bolseng, returning to the country life she cherished on an acreage at the bottom of the Sunset Hills. She worked as a farm employee, kept a small herd of cattle, and poured energy into her yard and garden. Her efforts drew warm praise from neighbours and friends. Winning the Bentley and District Agricultural Society and Lacombe Counties ‘Best Acreage Award’ in 1991 was a point of pride. She loved curling, community and family activities with her large extended family.
Later in life, Virginia moved to Rimbey Valley View Manor, where she felt safe and supported. She looked forward to live music, games, and friendly competitions (especially when chocolate was on the line at bingo). She spoke with family often; those near-daily calls were a thread of constancy and care. Shortly before her passing, Virginia enjoyed a treasured visit with family in Lethbridge. It was a weekend of cheering at a traditional Japanese dance competition and sharing stories around the supper table.
Virginia will be cremated according to her wishes and a celebration of life for family and friend's will be announced in the Spring or Summer of 2026..
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff and residents of Rimbey Valley View Manor for their kindness and community. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a charity meaningful to you.
