It is with great sadness the family of Wendy Louise Filewich wishes to announce her passing at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre on December 23, 2023 at the age of 70.
Wendy is survived by her eldest son Michael of Breton AB and her youngest son Trevor (Sheila) of Breton AB. Grandchildren: Braydan, Kallie and Bodie. Special friend Tom and Family. Sisters Diane Marshall of Stettler, Doris Merrick of Medicine Hat. Stepbrothers Gary Barr of Edmonton and Dale Barr of Warburg. As well as numerous extended family and friends.
Wendy is predeceased by her husband Mike, Father Art Weis, Mother Joan Barr, Stepdad Mel Barr, Brothers Dale Weis and George Weis.
Wendy was born on July 11, 1953 in Alix AB. She was the youngest of 5 children born to Art and Joan Weis.
Wendy met her husband Mike in Calgary AB and they were married in 1975. The boys were born not to long after. They lived in Calgary for a few years before making the move to Winfield AB. They lived in the Winfield area for a few more years before moving to what is now the family farm south of Breton AB, where she resided until her passing.
Wendy was well known in the community for her number of years of service at the West Pine Lodge. She started working there shortly after their move from Calgary. She began as a housekeeper/general service worker. Eventually working her way up to Manager. She not only managed the West Pine Lodge but also a few other lodges within the Bethany Group. She retired from West Pine Lodge in June of 2018.
Wendy had a passion for gardening and flowers. She could always be found out in the yard, planting, weeding or cutting grass. She also had a love for farming and cows. Wendy enjoyed her garden and flowers, raising a few cows and spending quality time with her family and friends right up until her passing.
A celebration of Life will be held for Wendy on February 2, 2023 at 1pm at the Breton Community Centre. With a luncheon to follow.
Memorial Donations can be made in her honor to any of the local greenhouses, or to the West Pine Lodge.
