Arlene was born in Cardston, Alberta to Rachel and Jeremiah (Jerry) Leavitt. She grew up on the family farm near Harrisville. She was the fifth child in a family of eight. Arlene is survived by her son Edward (Margaret), Joann Griffin (Chris), six grandchildren; Mitchel, Kasity, Harlen, Richard, Robyn, Megan, six great grandchildren, her sister Betty Shortt and numerous nieces and nephews.
After graduating High School, Arlene went to university and became a teacher. Her first teaching job was at Carway. She stayed at the family farm and rode a horse over the hills to school each day. Arlene’s second teaching job took her to Widewater in Northern Alberta. During this time she met her husband, Nick. They married and moved to a farm at Kinuso. Arlene transferred to Kinuso School where she taught high school for more than 30 years.
After retiring in 1987, Arlene devoted her time to her growing family and her favorite hobbies of gardening, quilting and reading.
In 1992 Arlene and Nick moved to Bentley, Alberta to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Arlene resided in Bentley until her passing. Arlene’s spirit lives on in the stories, the lessons we carry forward and the love that will forever blossom in our hearts. Arlene taught us to be patient, kind, generous, always see the best in people and to believe that tomorrow holds promises yet to be discovered. Arlene was more than a gift, she was a blessing and for that we are eternally grateful.
A Memorial Service will take place on Thursday, March 28, 2024 at 2:00 pm at the Rimbey United Church.
