Mrs. Carolyn Ruth Osmond, beloved wife of Aubrey Osmond, passed away peacefully at the Red Deer Hospital on Tuesday, November 14, 2023 at the age of 80 years.

Mr. Aubrey Clifford Osmond, beloved husband of Carolyn Osmond, passed away peacefully at the Wetaskiwin Hospital on Tuesday, January 9, 2024 at the age of 80 years.

Carolyn Ruth (Russell) Osmond

March 6, 1943 ~ November 14, 2023

Carolyn Ruth Osmond, beloved wife, mom, sister, grandma, and great-grandma passed away on Tuesday, November 14, 2023 at the Red Deer Regional Hospital, Red Deer, Alberta with family at her bedside.

She was dearly missed by her loving husband, Aubrey, of 59 years until his unexpected death two months later.  Now she leaves to mourn their daughter, Kristi Lynn Osmond of Vancouver Island, B.C., their adored granddaughter, Kaely Soleil Langlois (Cole), great-grandson, Jackson  and great-granddaughter, Aubree; Sisters-in-law, Susan Russell, Virginia; Rebecca Russell, Madison, Wisconsin; nephews: Raymond Russell (Janice) and family, Ohio, James Russell (Marion) and family, Auburn, California, Matthew Russell (Sveta) and family, Uganda; niece Jessica Wenhua, Boston, Mass. and nephew Robert Wu, New York, N.Y.   Many life-long friends and former work associates across Canada and the U.S. also mourn Carolyn’s passing.

She was predeceased by her parents, George Russell and Marion Iona Shelley-Russell and brother,      Dr. David Russell of Virginia.

Carolyn was an individual of diligent organization and schedule. She graduated from High School at Kingsway College, Oshawa in 1960 and received her B.Ed. from Atlantic Union College, Mass. in 1965. Her career took her to the classroom as a Business Education teacher, first in St. Patrick’s Hiigh School, Halifax, NS, then at Kingsway College, Oshawa, ON. Thereafter, she assumed the position of Business Manager at Kingsway College.  When Aubrey and Carolyn moved to Alberta she continued her life-long dedication to Adventist education, accepting the position as Vice President of Financial Affairs, Burman University, Lacombe (1996-2006). Prior to her retirement she was Vice President for Finance at The Alberta Conference of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Red Deer, AB. Carolyn enjoyed her work and was committed to accuracy and fairness, always willing to listen and to be approachable.

It seemed to all who knew Carolyn and Aubrey they were truly the perfect match. Bonded by an appreciation of the rich Newfoundland culture, their childhoods were similar in many ways. They supported each other in their desires to serve others—both in the many classrooms where they found themselves and more importantly, their service to God who guided their path for nearly six decades. Carolyn was a hostess and invited guests (often her students) to Sabbath dinner. Carolyn and Aubrey shared the love of nature, of camping, and from the beginning of their life together had travel trailers of various sorts. Even in later years, they enjoyed looking or “window shopping” at RV dealerships. Besides reading and writing, Carolyn had a known hobby of collecting bells. Her family also knew her as an enthusiastic shopper—always an interesting outing.

Aubrey Clifford Osmond

July 20, 1943 - January 9, 2024

Aubrey Clifford Osmond was born in Norris Point, Bonne Bay, Newfoundland on July 20, 1943.         He left us peacefully on January 9, 2024 after a brief time of deteriorating health and a resultant brain bleed. While visiting his sister, Geneva and family, he passed away in the Wetaskiwin General Hospital.

He will be deeply missed by his daughter, Kristi Lynn Osmond of Nanaimo, B.C.; granddaughter, Kaely Soleil Langlois (Cole) Sylvan Lake; great-grandson, Jackson and great-granddaughter Aubree; sisters: Carol Williams, Halifax, N.S., Iona Brooks (Roy) Warkworth, ON, Geneva Fox, Wetaskiwin AB, Cynthia Bishop (Lyall) Oshawa, ON. Nieces: Rhonda Clements (Danny) PEI, Ruth Harding-Bowen (Patrick) Halifax, N.S., Lorraine Brooks (David) Hamilton, ON, Nicole Brooks (Richard) Grimsby, ON, Crystal Bishop Scott (Stephen), Oshawa, ON, Corinne Bishop, Oshawa, ON; Nephews: Randy Gordon, Wetaskiwin, AB; Robbie Brooks, Peterborough, ON; Craig Brooks (Elizabeth), Newcastle, ON; Gerad Fox, Wetaskiwin, AB.

He was predeceased by his loving wife, Carolyn, of 59 years, and his parents, Victor Samuel Osmond and Hazel (Young) Osmond (both born in Bonne Bay, NL).

Aubrey (Aub) was truly a gentle man who saw only the best in all those who knew him. He was kind, generous, and authentically himself in his personal and work life.  He graduated Grade XII in 1960 at United Church School, Shoal Brook, Bonne Bay, NL; B.Ed. in 1972 from Andrews University, Michigan. A highlight in Aub's life was his marriage to Carolyn Russell on August 27, 1964 at the College Park Church in Oshawa.  He was rich with experience and stories from his early years as Principal and teacher. Aub found his work meaningful, impacting many ears and minds, shaping futures and character as a result. He felt the gravity of the need to inspire his students, teaching from a place of genuine care and good will for all those he encountered. At age 19 his first position was at the Adventist Church School in Botwood, NF (1962-1963); the next five years principal/teacher at the SDA Church School, Halifax, NS; then followed by principalship/teacher College Park Elementary School, Oshawa, ON, and principal at Sandy Lake Academy, Bedford, NS for eight years. Notable, in 1991 he was recipient of the Zapara Award for excellence in teaching. Prior to their move to Alberta, he taught Math, Science and Industrial Arts at Kingsway College College, Oshawa, ON for 16 years. Aub taught one year at the College Heights Adventist Junior Academy in Lacombe. Thereafter, he accepted the position of Plant Services Director at Burman University, Lacombe until his retirement. He is remembered by family & colleagues as a wise, ethical businessman, a mentor and friend who listened well and truly cared.

Aub lived and loved well. He was a man of strong conviction and caring, a much-loved father, who also fostered "family' wherever he was involved - at work and in the communities wherever they lived.  He enjoyed driving highway buses and RVs, or repairing or refitting them. His hobbies included woodworking, mechanics, small engines, water skiing and camping. Their photo albums testify their enthusiasm for travel, particularly throughout Canada and the U.S. Admittedly, in more recent years he cherished most his time with grandson, Jackson. One day soon in the earth made new, he will get to meet newborn granddaughter, Aubree. Aub served his church well and held Romans 8:28 an apt representation of his Faith: "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to those who are called according to his purpose."

Until we meet again, we will miss him more than words can say.
 

A Celebration of Carolyn and Aubrey's Life will be held at Wilson's Funeral Chapel, 6120 Highway 2A, Lacombe, Alberta on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at 1:00 p.m.  They will be buried in the Burnt Lake Cemetery, Red Deer County on Sunday, May 5, 2024.
