David Pfau Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of David Pfau on the morning of February 14th at Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre with his wife Kathy at his side.

David Robert Theodore Pfau was born on February 18,1954 in St. Catharine's, Ontario. He was joined by two brothers Stephen and John, and later his sister Carolyn. David grew up in Southern Ontario, moving to Manitoba in 1971 with his family. After completing high school in The Pas, he attended the University of Winnipeg, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in 1975. Then going on to Law School at the University of Manitoba, he graduated in 1978. While at university, David worked during the summers in northern Manitoba as a construction labourer and an underground miner at a nickel mine in Thompson. David met and fell in love with Katherine Kolebaba while at university. David and Kathy were married on May 13, 1978, in The Pas, Manitoba. The newlyweds lived and worked in Winnipeg, where David was called to the Manitoba Bar in 1979. Later that same year, Dave moved west to Stettler, Alberta, where he practiced law and was called to the Alberta Bar in 1980. The first of David's three children, Lisa, was born in Stettler in 1981.

Since high school, David took an active interest in politics. He was involved in both provincial and federal party politics, landing just right of center. David continued his community service throughout his life. While in Stettler, he started a Junior Chamber of Commerce Club, also known as Jaycees, with a few friends. In Rimbey, David joined Kinsman - filling many roles as a long-time member. He took particular pride in arranging to have the Canadian Airborne Regiment Skyhawks parachute into the halftime show at the 1989 Kinsman Demo Derby. David served on the Board of the Alberta Hospital Ponoka for several years, finding it rewarding. He also enjoyed snowmobiling, co-founding the Wolf Creek Snowmobile Club, where the family enjoyed mountain tours and poker rallies.

David practiced law in Rimbey for more than 30 years. He was a lawyer’s lawyer, who did excellent work for all his clients, priding himself on accuracy and thoroughness. He retired in 2014.

David had a lifelong love of music that was his comfort and encouragement, often playing it loud enough for the neighbors to hear.

David,
We love you.
We miss you.
We will remember you
.

David is survived by his wife Kathy, his sister Carolyn, his children Lisa, Ian (Vanessa), Kevin (Jamie), grand girls Charlie and Ivy and grandson Liam.

Thank you to the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre for their compassionate care of David during his final days.
