Paul Ernest Harty passed away peacefully on December 22, 2023, at the age of 79. Marg, his wife of 57 years, cared for him with love and respect through his 10-year journey with Alzheimer’s disease, and was at his side at the time of his death.
Paul was born on July 9, 1944 in Eckville, Alberta and lived much of his life in Sundre, and later, in Calgary. Paul had a good sense of humor and was loved by many.
Paul had a passion for traveling, especially with his wife Marg, on their Gold Wing motorcycle. They explored countless destinations together, creating cherished memories along the way. He was a talented musician, playing multiple instruments throughout his life. At the age of 35, he took up downhill skiing and enjoyed many trips to Lake Louise with his wife and children until well into his 50s.
Paul was a much sought-after electrician in the oilfield for many years and was known for being a master craftsman both in his technical and aesthetic excellence in the field. He loved his work but unfortunately had to retire long before he wanted to, due to a long standing back injury.
Paul always had a strong faith and worship was an important part of his life. He spent many hours volunteering with Ellel Ministries and loved ministering to others.
Paul is survived by his beloved wife, Margaret, and their daughters: Kirsten (David), Laverne (Perry), Rachael (Randy), and Regina (Darryl). He also leaves behind nine cherished grandchildren, as well as several in-laws, nieces, and nephews. Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth and Fred Harty, and his two sisters, Pauline Harty and Sharon Olson.
The family wishes to extend their thanks to the staff at the Lacombe Long Term Care facility for their excellent service and care for Paul over the last two and a half years.
A Memorial Service to Celebrate Paul's life will be held on Saturday April 06, 2024 at 2:00 pm at Wilson's Funeral Chapel - Lacombe.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Society in Paul's honor.
