MADDOX, Thomas Frank (Tom)
June 9, 1937 – Feb 7, 2024
Tom passed away peacefully in Red Deer, Alberta at the age of 86 years. Tom was one of nine children born to Jervel and Joan Maddox of Eckville. He grew up on the family farm in the Medicine Valley, close to Gilby. Tom married Caroline in 1959 at Gimlet. They lived in Calgary where he worked for Mid-West paper until returning to their farm in 1962. Tom farmed with his Dad and brother Bill, and then moved to Caroline’s folks’ dairy farm where they farmed with Stuart and Laura Chappell. Tom attended Olds College and became an agricultural mechanic, graduating with Honours with Distinction. The family returned to the farm and Tom worked at Kasha Farm Supplies until his retirement. Tom and Caroline worked on the farm for a few more years before eventually selling. Tom and Caroline travelled extensively in their RV, making many trips to Arizona. They purchased a home in Rimbey and resided there until Caroline’s passing in 2015. Tom enjoyed his work as a mechanic, loved the farm, loved travelling and visiting anytime, anywhere. Reading, playing cards and being with his family were favourite pastimes. Tom was very involved with his community, helping with many projects and neighbours wherever he went. Tom is survived by his dear friend Jean Podridske, many family and friends and his children, Debbie (Lyle) Burke, Jody (Andrea) Maddox and Anna-Marie (Ken) Olive, grandchildren Morgan, Lisa and Mack Burke, Elijah and Zane Maddox, Laura and Julie Olive and great grandchild Duke Maddox.
Special thanks to The Hamlets of Red Deer.
A Memorial Service will be held on May 4th. at the Gilby Hall at 2:00 p.m. with refreshments and fellowship to follow.
